Shipping and Receiving
Handles general freight deliveries from UPS, FED-EX, AIRBORNE, etc.
Shipping and Receiving Procedures
All daily deliveries accepted by Shipping and Receiving are distributed to departments on the day of arrival, usually before 4:00 p.m. Express deliveries from Fed Ex, UPS Next Day Air, and Airborne Express are given highest priority and are delivered within thirty minutes of arrival on campus. Bulk items such as applications and catalogs, will be put on hold until all daily deliveries are completed. Please have the shipping company place a contact name in the delivery "Ship To" address for more efficient package delivery.
When ordering bulk items, Shipping and Receiving should be notified prior to delivery, so arrangements can be made for handling, storage, or delivery of the items. Space is limited at the receiving dock. It is imperative that space is available in the department or other arrangements have been made for storage of bulk items. Large orders of furniture need to be delivered directly to the department or building when possible. Most companies will have an assembly crew deliver and set up furniture in the department. If this is not possible, Shipping and Receiving will accept the order, but arrangements must be made with National or an outside moving company for department delivery prior to the day of initial delivery on campus.
Shipping and Receiving must be notified by the department of any time sensitive or temperature sensitive deliveries ahead of time. The department must sign for the package; otherwise, Physical Plant does not assume any responsibility for the contents of the package.
Shipping and Receiving also ships packages out daily. If you have an item or items to be sent out, contact Shipping and Receiving at ext. 5418 or the Shipping and Receiving supervisor at extension 2508. All packages will be picked up by 4:00 p.m. for same day shipping. Shipping and Receiving uses UPS for all shipping. Available options including Next Day, Second Day, and Ground. If another carrier has to be used, the department must make all arrangements for pick-up by the chosen carrier.
Shipping and Receiving also delivers copy paper to all campus locations. Orders for paper must be made through Purchasing, and will be delivered within one day of receipt of the order from Purchasing. All orders for copy paper in the School of Medicine must be made through the MUSM Finance office.
Shipping and Receiving looks forward to serving the needs of the campus and its departments.
